Hey, I write this blog in French, my native language. AI was used to translate this.
I proofread it but please let me know if you spot anything off. Cheers!
The theme of Juniper Dev‘s game jam was: Spin to win. And honestly, quite a few developers came up with some really interesting angles. Juniper sums up a good bunch of them in their post-jam video if you want to know more.
On my end, I took spin literally, a head that spins and slides, and the whole game is just about chaining clean runs to climb the leaderboard. I talk about it in more detail here if you’re interested.
And otherwise, here are my 5 favorites:
Bing Chill Inc.

Every game jam has its share of incremental games. And for this one my favorite, Bing Chill Inc., is built around a game of bingo. It’s one of those games that feels obvious once it’s been made. Oh, and I love the art direction. My only complaint: no real ending, you end up stopping once you start earning more than you can spend.

Death Spiral is probably my favorite game of the jam. A one button horror roguelike. The idea is so simple and so well executed. Everything has an insane level of polish. The music is incredible, the art direction, the visual effects, the game design. You get the concept in 2 seconds. I still struggle to understand how they pulled this off in such a short time.

Yo-Yo Jo-Jo mixes the yoyo from Animal Well (❤️) with a grappling hook. All of it in a short 2D platformer built on the same idea as Öoo (❤️), so what better mix could there be. It can be finished in 15min and despite a few rage moments when you can’t quite control the movement now and then, it’s really a good experience.

Serious Solemates

Sometimes a game jam game isn’t necessarily a game I’d want to find on Steam. It’s a super short experience, one I find cute and well made. That’s the case for Serious Solemates, where you just have to pair socks together, and honestly if there had been other things to match up, I probably would have kept going a little longer 🙂
Johnny Kill
The other way around, sometimes I have more fun imagining what a game could become. Johnny Kill really reminds me of Six Bit. But in 3D. With more depth, more levels and a bit more polish, I can really see what it could turn into. For now, it’s still a pretty nice experience.
